CORONAVIRUS — FLU
SEASON IMPACT
105. Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. I appreciate
the Premier's response. In relation to the staff pools, I redirect the
question. How many additional doctors, nurses and intensive care beds would be
required to manage the additional burden if there is a COVID-19 outbreak whilst
there is a seasonal flu outbreak?

It depends upon the severity, and
it depends upon the demand. Obviously, that is something that we will have to
monitor and deal with as the situation evolves. As I have said, it is time for
working soberly, constructively and calmly,
and that is what we are doing across government; indeed, we are doing it with
the commonwealth government. One of the matters that I discussed with
the Prime Minister on Saturday was a sharing of the costs in relation to these
matters. The state, of course, will do whatever is required in terms of cost,
but it is great to know that the commonwealth has agreed to pick up half the
tab for these matters, and, obviously, is working cooperatively with our
medical professionals to ensure maximum services are available to deal with the
situation both in hospitals but also in the broader area of medical provision—GPs
and the like—across Western Australia.
