SCHOOLS —
NON-GOVERNMENT SECONDARY — FUNDING
775. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
(1) Has the
model of state funding to the non-government secondary system been finalised;
and, if so, will the minister table the details of the funding arrangements?
(2) With
respect to the level of funding for year 7 students in non-government secondary
schools, does the minister accept that his government led the sector to believe
it would be funded for year 7s at the secondary rate once the public sector
moved year 7s into secondary school and that re-arranging the existing pool of
funding to increase year 7s by reducing funding to higher year levels was not
what his government led the sector to believe would occur?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(2) The
Department of Education Services has finalised this work, which will shortly be
considered by the government.
That is the extent of the response
that I have at this stage. I understand that that will not satisfy the
honourable member. Once it has been through cabinet et cetera, I will have
plenty to say. The facts are there. We fund the non-government sector higher
than any state in the nation. They are the facts. We have been very generous and
we will continue to be so. As this goes through cabinet and it is accepted, I
will have plenty to say. I have no problems doing that at all.
