ROAD SAFETY COMMISSIONER —
APPOINTMENT
578. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I
refer to the Minister for Police's media statement of 22 April 2020
regarding the appointment of the new Road Safety Commissioner.
(1) Was the position advertised;
and, if so, on what date and by what means?
(2) How many applications for the
position were received and how many candidates were interviewed?
(3) Who was on the selection panel
that was chaired by the Commissioner of Police?
(4) How was the
Commissioner of Police's conflict of interest, arising from the Western
Australia Police Force being a significant recipient of funding from the road
trauma trust account, disclosed and managed whilst chairing the selection panel
that selected the new commissioner?
(5) Did the chairperson or any member of the Road
Safety Council play any role in the selection of the Road Safety
Commissioner?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Police. The Western Australia Police Force advise the
following.
(1) The position
was advertised on the jobs.wa.gov.au website and Seek and via Aboriginal
services, via jobs.wa.gov.au, on 12 February 2020. It was also advertised in The
West Australian of 15 February 2020.
(2) Fifteen
applications were received and six applicants were invited for interview. One
applicant withdrew after receiving the interview questions and scenario.
(3) The panel
consisted of Chris Dawson, Commissioner of Police; Lorraine Gregoriadis,
executive director strategic leadership and talent, Public Sector Commission;
Iain Cameron, managing director, Department of Transport, and chairperson of
the Road Safety Council; and Gary Hodge, director advanced leadership, The
Pacific Institute.
(4) The Commissioner of Police
understood the impartiality requirements of the selection process.
(5) Yes. The chairperson of the
Road Safety Council was a member of the selection panel.
