Police officers—Dismissals
1048. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the minister
representing the Minister for Police:
I refer the minister
to data from the annual reports of the Corruption and Crime Commission and
Western Australia Police Force suggesting that 63 WA Police Force public
officers were dismissed due to findings of serious misconduct in the financial
year 2023–24. Although I was unable to locate definitive figures for 2024–25
as yet, I saw a report suggesting that the number of sworn officers facing
criminal charges increased by over 60% in 2024–25.
(1) Are the full figures relating to misconduct
and criminal charges available for the financial year 2024–25, and, if
not, why are they not available to us almost six months after the end of the
reporting period?
(2) Was any sworn or public officer dismissed on
the basis of cannabis use or possession concern or charge in either 2023–24
or 2024–25, and, if so, can the minister please provide the relevant
number of such officers?
(3) Can the minister further confirm whether any
sworn or public officer was dismissed in either 2023–24 or 2024–25
for a concern or charge under any section of the Misuse
of Drugs Act 1981 , and, again, if so, can he provide the number of such
officers?
