DUNGEON YOUTH CENTRE — FUNDING
I refer to the answer given to question without notice 14, asked on Tuesday, 19 February 2008, regarding the Dungeon Youth Centre in Ballajura. Given that the minister has indicated that recurrent funding is not an option that will be considered by the government, what other funding options will the minister consider to ensure that the centre, which provides services to 164 young people—many of whom are at risk—remains open? I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Office for Youth within the Department for Communities administers the Youth Grants WA program, which was established to assist the development of young people aged between 12 and 25 years. The Youth Grants WA program offers three types of non-recurrent funding opportunities: small grants of up to $5 000 each, sponsorships of up to $10 000 each and special project grants of up to $35 000 each. The sponsorships and special project grants will be advertised on 5 March 2008, and the Dungeon Youth Centre has been encouraged to apply for project and activity funding. There is a range of other funding avenues across government, state and federal, and I encourage the Dungeon Youth Centre to explore these possibilities. I might add that Lotterywest is another option that should be considered.
