AMMONIA STORAGE TANKS — DEEP GORGE ROCK ART 711. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the Minister for Environment: I refer to the pressure relief valves on the Yara Fertiliser ammonia storage tanks. (1) Why do these valves continue to fail? (2) Has every failure been properly reported to the department? (3) How many failures have been reported to the department in the last year? I thank the member for some notice of the question. (1) The valves are designed to relieve pressure within the storage tanks. The cause of and remedial action taken in the event of a reportable incident are reported to and investigated by the Department of Environment Regulation. In each incident, there may be a different reason why the valve has relieved the pressure in the storage tanks. (2) Under section 72 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986, companies must report discharges of waste likely to cause pollution or environmental harm. Not all individual valve failures are required to be reported to the department. (3)–(4) The answer is provided in tabular form. The monitoring program commenced in 2004 and measures changes in the colour or mineralogy of the rock art sites. I have tabled the results from CSIRO’s “Burrup Peninsula Aboriginal Petroglyphs: Colour Change and Spectral Mineralogy 2004–2014 report”.

The monitoring program commenced in 2004 and measures changes in the colour or mineralogy of the rock art sites. I have tabled the results from CSIRO’s “Burrup Peninsula Aboriginal Petroglyphs: Colour Change and Spectral Mineralogy 2004–2014 report”.

(4) What quantity of ammonia was released on each occasion by volume and parts per million? (5) What impact is the leaking ammonia having on the rock art in Deep Gorge? The cause of and remedial action taken in the event of a reportable incident are reported to and investigated by the Department of Environment Regulation. (2) Under section 72 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986, companies must report discharges of waste likely to cause pollution or environmental harm. Not all individual valve failures are required to be reported to the department. (3)–(4) The answer is provided in tabular form. The monitoring program commenced in 2004 and measures changes in the colour or mineralogy of the rock art sites. I have tabled the results from CSIRO’s “Burrup Peninsula Aboriginal Petroglyphs: Colour Change and Spectral Mineralogy 2004–2014 report”.

(2) Under section 72 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986, companies must report discharges of waste likely to cause pollution or environmental harm. Not all individual valve failures are required to be reported to the department. (3)–(4) The answer is provided in tabular form. The monitoring program commenced in 2004 and measures changes in the colour or mineralogy of the rock art sites. I have tabled the results from CSIRO’s “Burrup Peninsula Aboriginal Petroglyphs: Colour Change and Spectral Mineralogy 2004–2014 report”.
(1) The valves are designed to relieve pressure within the storage tanks. The cause of and remedial action taken in the event of a reportable incident are reported to and investigated by the Department of Environment Regulation. In each incident, there may be a different reason why the valve has relieved the pressure in the storage tanks. (2) Under section 72 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986, companies must report discharges of waste likely to cause pollution or environmental harm. Not all individual valve failures are required to be reported to the department. (3)–(4) The answer is provided in tabular form. The monitoring program commenced in 2004 and measures changes in the colour or mineralogy of the rock art sites. I have tabled the results from CSIRO’s “Burrup Peninsula Aboriginal Petroglyphs: Colour Change and Spectral Mineralogy 2004–2014 report”.
