The two aircraft based at Manjimup have provided an improved aerial suppression capacity for the south-west region between Manjimup and Albany, and have been used successfully on numerous wildfires in this region in the current fire season. At the completion of this fire season, the effectiveness of the current coverage of the water bomber fleet will be reviewed by DCLM and FESA. This review will include the effectiveness of the water bombers in dealing with wildfires in the Lower Great Southern area, and will consider the need for any additional water bomber cover to protect values in this area. Any consideration of an extension to the current capacity will necessarily include a cost-benefit analysis of supplying extra water bomber aircraft and associated facilities and services.
