SOCIAL HOUSING —
STOCK
258. Ms L. METTAM to the Minister for Housing:
I refer to my question 11 weeks ago
regarding the number of social housing homes in Western Australia, and the
minister's inability to provide a definite answer at that time. Given
that Australian Institute of Health and Welfare data shows that there were 44 332
social housing dwellings in WA in 2017, and the minister's answer in
the other place from January 2023 that there were 43 458 social housing
dwellings at that time, yes or no: are there more social housing dwellings now
than there were when the government came to power in 2017?

AnswerView source ↗

I can say to the Leader of the
Opposition—sorry, the Leader of the Liberal Party—that our
state government is making a record investment in social housing in Western Australia.
That is a fact. We are making substantial, ongoing investments, despite facing
the tightest construction market in the history of Western Australia. To date,
we have added 1 200 homes into the system, and we have around 1 000 under
contract or construction. Those are facts. When I speak to stakeholders, they
understand that this government is doing everything it can, using every lever
it can, to accelerate the delivery of social housing in Western Australia.
