In answer to questions asked by Hon Barry House in question without notice 877, the minister advised that 16 school staff members had been removed from schools and placed in central and district officers because allegations had been made that they had committed offences involving sexual abuse of children or sourcing of child pornography. (1) Has the minister taken any action since last November to ensure that all these serious allegations are referred to the police because they involve serious criminal matters beyond the scope of usual public service disciplinary proceedings? (2) If not, why not? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) It is a fairly unusual question because of the level of detail required. Hon Norman Moore : With respect - Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH : With respect, the Leader of the Opposition will know that such matters are dealt with according to the processes and procedures of the Department of Education and Training. He will also be aware that this is an operational matter and, as such, it is being dealt with by the department. If the Leader of the Opposition is asking me to give him information on 16 different individuals and the 16 different issues surrounding them, quite frankly, that is an unrealistic expectation. If the Leader of the Opposition was dinkum about wanting the right response to his question and wanted to learn the exact position, he would have had the courtesy to put that question on notice.
