I refer to the 2006 report by the WA Environmental Protection Authority assessing the fire management in the Kimberley and other rangeland regions of Western Australia, and ask —
(1) Was air quality monitoring undertaken in Derby and Kununurra by the Department of Environment and Conservation to measure particles of less than 10 microns and less than 2.5 microns concentrations and to assess their potential significance?
(2) If yes to (1), on what dates were these undertaken?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
(4) If yes to (1) —
(a) what were the outcomes; and
(b) will the Minister table the findings?

(1)
No

(3)  The National Environment Protection (Ambient Air Quality) Measure (NEPM) provides a formula for the number of performance monitoring stations, with a minimum of one station required in a population centre of 25,000 people or more.
As there are no population centres in the Kimberley, including Derby and Kununurra, with 25,000 people or more (based on the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics), no NEPM monitoring is undertaken.
(4)  Not applicable
