I refer to the minister’s refusal to provide proper answers to two questions in this place yesterday regarding the illegal land clearing by Goundrey Wines Ltd, despite being given more than five hours’ notice of those questions. (1) Did Goundrey’s commitments to maintain the road reserve and undertake other plantings include any commitment to expenditure on the company’s behalf; and if so, what was the amount? (2) Who assessed Goundrey’s claims that the cleared road reserve was regenerating and did that assessment involve a physical inspection of the site? (3) Will the minister table the correspondence she referred to yesterday which she stated had advised Dr Cox that the roadside vegetation was regenerating? Mrs EDWARDES

The answers I provided yesterday were proper. (1) Goundrey Wines’ commitment to revegetation has been demonstrated by tree plantings along a tributary to and along the banks of the Hay River; by tree plantings on slopes and below a dam on the property; and by setting 2 000 metres of its boundary fence 4 metres in from the roadside boundary and allowing native plant regeneration. It also coordinated an Olympic land care project in which trees were planted along Peerambup Creek near the Fox River vineyard. Goundrey has made a commitment to rehabilitate areas of the vineyard not planted to grapevines over the next two years, and to retain the native roadside vegetation along the Muir Highway frontage of the property. (2) Dr Cox personally visited the area to satisfy himself that the verge was regenerating. (3) I table the papers. [See papers Nos 531A-B.]
