I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) Parent support services are currently available in the south east and east metropolitan police districts, covering suburbs from Bullsbrook to Armadale and Ballajura to Wooroloo. (2) Parent support services are not currently available in country regions of Western Australia. Parent support services are to be gradually extended to country regions of Western Australia over several years. (3) The budget for the provision of parent support services is provided on a table, which I seek leave to have incorporated in Hansard . Leave granted. [See paper 1560.] The following material was incorporated - _________________________________________________________________________________________ 2006/07 $’000 2007/08 $’000 2008/09 $’000 2009/10 $’000 Office of Crime Prevention 2,500 4,000 6,500 7,500 Department for Community Development 240 367 606 718 TOTAL 2,740 4,367 7,106 8,218 _________________________________________________________________________________________ (4) Yes. Recruitment of indigenous staff is a specific feature of existing parent support teams, and will be for all teams established in the future. The budget includes resources to develop service models appropriate to indigenous and remote communities. This development work on parent support services for indigenous families is occurring with expert input from specialist advisory services, such as Indigenous Psychological Services, and is accessing the advice of the Kulunga Research Network of the TVW Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, as well as indigenous professionals in government and non-government agencies. Consultation with key indigenous groups and accepted elders and leaders is a requirement prior to introducing parent support services to an area. It is an ongoing commitment to facilitate the acceptance and appropriateness of the service to the community’s identified needs.
