BALLAJURA POLICE STATION
I refer to question without notice 318 asked last week. (1) Can the minister explain why the government has removed Ballajura from the police service strategic accommodation program, which would have seen a new police station built in Ballajura? (2) Is the minister aware that Ballajura Police Station is one of a handful of stations across the state in leased premises, operating from non-purpose-built offices, in which police officers are operating from cramped and unsafe conditions? (3) Is it true that, instead of building a new police station for the Ballajura-Malaga police district, the government is considering closing the police station in Ballajura? (4) Will the minister guarantee that the Ballajura Police Station will stay open? Hon PETER COLLIER

I thank the member for some notice of this question. On behalf of the Minister for Police, I provide the following response — (1) The 2008-2023 strategic accommodation plan was updated and integrated with WA Police’s 10-year capital works investment plan and submitted as part of the 2009-10 budget process, which is ongoing. (2) Yes. The current premises are not fit for their purpose and are unsuitable for use as a police station. (3) This is subject to an accommodation review. (4) The Commissioner of Police is responsible for the allocation of police services statewide and allocates resources accordingly. WA Police undertakes continual monitoring of policing services in each police district to ensure a responsive policing service is provided to the areas of greatest need.
