I refer to the Criminal Code Amendment (Home Invasion) Bill 2000. (1) Has the Government made any decision to conduct, or has it commenced planning, a publicity campaign on the way that Bill will change the rights of home occupiers to protect their property and/or family? (2) Has any consideration been given to, or any decision been made about, running advertisements on television; and if yes, what? (3) Is it the Government's intention to run television advertisements on the changes? (4) How much has been set aside or earmarked for the television advertising campaign? Hon PETER FOSS

(1) At the time of introducing the Criminal Code Amendment (Home Invasion) Bill 2000, I gave a public commitment that the Government would implement an information media campaign to correct community misconceptions about the legal right to defence against home invasion and to increase awareness about the legislative changes implemented by the Government. (2)-(4) It has been decided to exclude the use of television advertising from the media campaign.
