In relation to the chronic lack of housing in the communities of Wakathuni and Bellary Springs:
(a) is the Minister aware that these communities are currently suffering from a chronic shortage of housing – Wakathuni with only 16 houses (a 17
th
is condemned) to cater for a population of between 65–100 persons, and Bellary Springs with 8 houses and approx. 60 to 70 people;
(b) is the Minister aware that 6 of the houses in Wakathuni and 4 of those in Bellary Springs are badly overcrowded with 10–15 people;
(c) is the Minister aware that for those families facing overcrowding there is no alternative housing for them in Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Karratha or Port Hedland;
(d) has funding been sought for the Pilbara region for the latest National Partnership Agreement on Remote Indigenous Housing (NPARIH) submission period;
(i) and if not, why not; and
(e) in particular, will the Minister’s Department plan for the construction of new housing for the community of Wakathuni to assist with their chronic housing shortage;
(i) and if not, why not?

advises:
(a) There are 68 people living in Wakathuni with an average of 4 people per house and 35 living in Bellary Springs with an average of 4 people per house
(b) I am advised that 1 property in Wakathuni and 1 property in Bellary have more than 10 occupants.
(c) Residents can apply for social housing in the towns of Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Karratha or Port Hedland. Applicants can be assessed for priority assistance.
