The above data has been extracted from the Australian Institute of Health and Wellbeing (AIHW) National Public Health Expenditure reports for 2007/08 and 2008/09, and the Western Australian Department of Health data submitted for publication in the 2009/10 report. The latter has not yet been published by the AIHW. Data collection has not commenced for 2010/11 report: this will commence late 2011 with availability about February 2012.
The data provided represents the sum total of Western Australian State Government expenditure on eight core public health activities as defined by the AIHW: Communicable disease control; selected health promotion activities; organised immunization; Environmental health; food standards and hygiene; screening programs; prevention of hazardous and harmful drug use; and Public health research.
Healthway
Healthway seeks to reduce the burden of preventable chronic disease on the Western Australian community. In this sense, all Healthway grants and sponsorships can be categorised as expenditure on preventative health programs. Total expenditure on Healthway grants and sponsorships was as follows:
