Department of State Development advises:
(1-4) Policy decisions, program initiatives and resourcing by the Department of State Development impacting on the interests of the indigenous population of Western Australia include:
expansion of the Ord River irrigation scheme in the East Kimberley ($220 million State contribution with a further $195 million Commonwealth funding directed at social infrastructure); and
the Heads of Agreement signed with respect to the Kimberley LNG Precinct (State contribution approximately $251 million plus non-monetary benefits to Traditional Owners).
These initiatives, coupled with significant private sector investment, are indicative of the extent to which the Department of State Development is securing positive outcomes for the indigenous population, with activity primarily devoted to improving health, education, employment, business development and housing outcomes along with environment and heritage protection.
