I thank the member
for some notice of the question. I provide the following answer on behalf of the
Minister for Agriculture and Food.
(1) The current call system was
implemented in June 2021 and information on calls received prior to this date
cannot be provided in the time available. In 2021, 4,992 calls were received;
in 2022, 8,324 calls were received; in 2023, 9,151 calls were received; in
2024, 9,817 calls were received; and in 2025, 11,633 calls were received.
(2) There were 7.78 FTE.
(3) When calls are made to the helpline,
callers are advised that they are in a queue and their position number in the
queue. Additionally, callers are advised that if the matter requires urgent
assistance, they should hang up and call emergency services. Callers may choose
to remain in the queue until their call is taken or they may request a call
back. Information on the reasons people hang up or abandon calls is not
available. In 2021, there were 691 abandoned calls; in 2022, there were 1,749
abandoned calls; in 2023, there were 2,707 abandoned calls; in 2024, there were
2,500 abandoned calls; and in 2025, there were 3,351 abandoned calls.
