DEPARTMENT OF TRAINING AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT — STAFF
I refer to the Premier’s recent media comments that the new Department of Training and Workforce Development will have a new director general, who is a specialist head of training, and about 300 staff. (1) Of the approximately 300 staff referred to by the Premier, how many will be transferred from the existing Department of Education and Training, and how many will be newly appointed? (2) Can the Premier confirm that the new director general and the non-TAFE-based staff of the new Department of Training and Workforce Development will be located at the present Royal Street offices of the Department of Education and Training? (3) If no to (2), where will the staff for the new Department of Training and Workforce Development be located, what will be the estimated costs associated with their relocation, and will the Premier provide a breakdown of those costs? (4) If yes to (2), what will be the refurbishment costs to offices within the Royal Street building to accommodate the new Department of Training and Workforce Development and will the Premier provide a breakdown of those costs? Hon NORMAN MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(4) A working group has been established to consider the machinery of government changes and implementation issues associated with the establishment of the new Department of Training and Workforce Development. This includes the number and composition of staff and functions to be transferred from the existing Department of Education and Training, and the accommodation requirements for the new department. At this point, the above matters are still under consideration.
