This information is not collected. South Metropolitan Mental Health Services operate within the Assertive Patient Flow Policy which allocates a person to a bed dependent on need. This includes access to beds that may not be in the person's direct catchment area. People may be admitted through the community services or via Emergency Departments or General Wards

The median length of stay in an emergency department for a mental health admission is collected through the National Emergency Access Target (NEAT) collection since 2011. NEAT data was not available prior to financial year 2012/13
