Schools—Gender-based violence
169. Hon Sophia Moermond to the Leader of the
House representing the Minister for Education:
I refer to the newly
released blueprint from Our Watch titled Respectful
relationships education: A blueprint for preventing gender-based violence
through education systems.
(1) Is the government aware of this document?
(2) How is the Department of Education addressing
gender-based violence in WA schools?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable
member for some notice of the question.
(1) Yes.
(2) Public schools in Western Australia address
gender-based violence through the delivery of the respectful relationships
teaching support program to school staff in conjunction with the Department of
Communities and Starick; through the teaching of the pre-primary to year 10
mandated WA health and physical education curriculum, which ensures that
students receive education on healthy relationships and consent; and by
utilising additional resources to support schools in delivering education about
respectful relationships.
