Mr. Johnston questions the Minister for Energy regarding the inclusion of small-scale plants in the large-scale renewable energy target and the government's commitment to the 20% target. The Minister affirms awareness of the two targets, prioritises small-scale growth, and cites excess capacity as a reason to avoid large-scale expansion.

RENEWABLE ENERGY TARGET
348. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the Minister for
Energy:
I have a supplementary question.
(1) Is the minister aware that
small-scale plants are not part of the large-scale renewable energy target?
(2) Is the
government still committed to the Premier's commitment of 11 May 2009
to the 20 per cent large-scale renewable energy target?

AnswerView source ↗

(1)–(2) I
am fully aware that there are two renewable energy targets of large and small
scale and I have specifically stated that. The small scale is growing very,
very rapidly and that is the one we are giving the highest priority to, and we
will continue to do so. I also recognise that we have between 15 per cent to 20
per cent excess capacity in generating facilities, and I do not want to add to
that other than by small-scale, because it just imposes excessive costs on electricity
consumers. I am not wont to do that.
