(1 - 2d) Planned and funded road improvements are as follows:
Gnangara Road
Gnangara Road is the responsibility of the City of Swan. The City of Swan has plans to duplicate Gnangara Road between Alexander Drive to West Swan Road and at this stage they have obtained funding under the Metropolitan Regional Road Program for dualling between Beechboro Road and the City boundary from under a co-contributory basis.
Great Eastern Highway
Great Eastern Highway is a state road under the care and control of Main Roads.
Currently there are two major projects on Great Eastern Highway which are expected to cost about $460million which are both jointly funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments:
- Great Eastern Highway and Roe Highway Grade Separated interchange which started late 2010 and is due to be completed by mid 2012.
- Great Eastern Highway duplication- upgrading a 4.2 km section of highway between Kooyong Road and Tonkin Highway to six lanes with a central median, on-road cycling facilities and a continuous pedestrian path. Work to start on-site mid 2011 and be completed by late 2013.
Great Eastern Highway Improvements between Bilgoman Road and Mundaring project are in development stage with $100 000 provided for project development in 2010/11.
Reid Highway
Reid Highway is a state road under the care and control of Main Roads.
Funded projects planned or underway on Reid Highway include:
- Construction of an overpass at the intersection of Alexander Drive
($41 million) which was opened mid-April 2011. Jointly funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments
- Construction of an overpass at the intersection of Mirrabooka Avenue
($30 million), which is due to due to be completed late 2011. Funded by the State Government.
Tonkin Highway
Tonkin Highway is a state road under the care and control of Main Roads.
Currently there are a two projects planned / underway on Tonkin Highway
- Gateway WA - project focuses largely on the stretch of Tonkin Highway between Great Eastern Highway and Roe Highway, as well as Leach Highway from Orrong Road to Perth Airport.
Beechboro Road
Beechboro Road is a local road under the care and control of the City of Swan.
The City of Swan is responsible for considering and funding any road improvements on its roads. The City of Swan has advised Main Roads they have no improvement plans for this road however, more detailed information may be available direct from Council.
Albany Highway
Albany Highway is a state road under the care and control of Main Roads
As part of the 2010/11 State Blackspot program more than $1million was provided for:
(i) the removal of vegetation, the installation of audible edge lines, and design of traffic signals.
Wanneroo Road
Wanneroo Road is a state road under the care and control of Main Roads.
In April 2010 an $18 million upgrade of Wanneroo Road south of Joondalup Drive was completed, with only landscaping outstanding. The works involved dualling of a three-kilometre section between Wallawa Street to Joondalup Drive.
The City of Wanneroo will be installing traffic control signals at a proposed new intersection of Flynn Drive as part of its realignment of Flynn Drive further north.
Roe Highway
Roe Highway is a state road under the care and control of Main Roads
The State Government has committed more than $145million for several projects including preliminary planning / design activities for the 5 km extension of Roe Highway from Kwinana Freeway to Stock Road, a grade separation of the Roe / Great Eastern Highway intersection (jointly funded by the State and Commonwealth Government and due to be completed by mid 2012) and the installation of intelligent transport systems (also partly funded by the Commonwealth).
Marmion Avenue
The section of Marmion Avenue between Karrinyup and Ocean Reef Roads is under the care and control of Main Roads, with the northern sections under the care and control of the Cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo. Earlier this year more than $150,000 was spent on extending the right and left run pockets for northbound traffic at the intersection of Marmion and Hepburn Avenues and (extending the right and left turn pockets at the intersection of Marmion Avenue and Seacrest Drive as part of a State Blackspot project.
The City of Wanneroo has other planned work and more detailed advice on plans for Marmion Avenue may be available from the local government.
South Western Highway
South Western Highway is a state road under the care and control of Main Roads.
Extensive work, which included new overtaking lanes and the widening and reconstruction of the highway, has been undertaken between Bunbury and Manjimup in recent years.
In 2010/11 $4 million was provided to upgrade a 2 km section on the northern approach into Balingup and these works are close to completion.
