Hospitals—Northern corridor
1029. Hon Simon Ehrenfeld to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the
Premier's 2019 comments, as the then Minister for Health, to the Two Rocks Yanchep
Residents Association when he told a health forum that a hospital would likely
be built in the next five years.
(1) Given the City of Wanneroo's estimates that population
growth in the Butler–Two Rocks corridor is expected to go to 294,000 by
2046, the increasing pressure on the Joondalup Health Campus and the government's
recent media release of 6 November announcing a new $1.5 billion building
hospitals fund will the Premier now commit to the construction of a new
northern suburbs hospital in the next 12 months?
(2) If no (1), why not?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(2) The Department of Health is
continually monitoring and assessing the current and future health needs of
communities across the Perth, Peel and country WA regions as part of its
clinical service planning responsibilities. The government has committed significant
investment in health infrastructure for the northern corridor, including $8.1
million for the development of a new health centre in Yanchep, complemented by
additional funding from the federal government and Edith Cowan University. In
addition, $307.9 million was committed to expand Joondalup Health Campus, with
the final stage of this project delivering a further 60 public beds due for
completion in mid-2026.
