Cannabis—Offence charges
1074. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Attorney General:
I refer the Attorney
General to the fulsome answer that his predecessor was good enough to provide
me in response to my question of 14 February 2023 on the number of cannabis
charges laid and convictions levied for minor cannabis offences, as defined
under section 8B of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1981 over the course of 2022. I presume the numbers are now available for 2023 and
2024.
(1) Will the Attorney General please provide the
number of charges lodged over the course of 2023 and 2024 respectively under
section 6(2) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1981 ,
possession of cannabis?
(2) Will the Attorney General similarly provide
the number of such cases finalised in 2023–24 respectively that resulted
in a conviction?
