I thank the honourable member for the question. Hon Frank Hough: This is a fact of life. Hon NICK GRIFFITHS: I know. This is question time and the member has asked a question - I am happy to answer it. The Water Corporation advises as follows - (1) Water meters can register consumption as a result of high volumes of air passing through the system. Hon Frank Hough: What charge is put on air? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS: I am not going to leave the script! (2) Yes. However, the occurrence is extremely rare - thank heavens. (3) No. Air in mains is an unavoidable occurrence; for example, a burst mains. However, air valves and fire hydrants are used to purge trapped air.
