Greenhouse gas emissions
1055. Hon Rob Horstman to
the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Energy and
Decarbonisation:
My question is to
the Minister for the Environment. I refer to the government's shelved Climate
Change Bill 2023. Why did the government abandon its proposed emission reduction
targets ahead of the 2025 state election?

This question has
been referred to the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation. Since the
legislation was introduced, the way greenhouse gas emissions from industry in
WA are regulated has changed, with the federal government taking the lead
through the strengthened Safeguard Mechanism. The government is taking the time
to review the legislation to ensure it delivers the best outcomes.
