I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) The
graduation dates for the current class of police recruits at the WA Police
Academy are as follows: Friday, 5 October 2012, grey 1 of 2012 and green 2 of
2012; Friday, 14 December 2012, red 3 of 2012 and white 4 of 2012; Friday, 1 February
2013, gold 5 of 2012 and blue 6 of 2012; Friday, 29 March 2013, grey 7 of 2012
and green 8 of 2012; Friday, 17 May 2013, red 9 of 2012 and white 10 of 2012.
(2) The
probationer and cadet development unit addresses recruit squads and advises
them of the process regarding regional vacancies. Probationary constables may
apply for vacancies at Bunbury, Collie and Busselton. Australind is currently
being added to this list of locations suitable for probationers. Two recently
graduated police officers recruited from the south west filled vacancies at the
Collie Police Station. A project is currently underway that is recommending a
variety of strategies for filling these vacancies. One of the recommendations
includes increased allocation of probationers to regional Western Australia.
(3) Visits are
planned, so at this stage no data is available to respond to this question.
(4) Police
officers have many reasons for making decisions about postings in regional
Western Australia.
(5) WA Police
does not have criteria for classifying vacancies as long term. A position is
classified as vacant if the previous occupant has physically left and a
replacement officer has not been selected to fill the position.
