MAIN ROADS
— STRATEGIC ASSET PLAN
895. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the
minister's comments yesterday that he had received legal advice
regarding withholding the release of the Main Roads strategic asset plan and
classifying the plan as cabinet-in-confidence.
(1) What was the advice
provided and who provided that legal advice?
(2) Why did the government table a 2015–16
strategic asset plan and why has that advice changed so dramatically under the
minister's stewardship?

(1)–(2) I thank the member for the question.
I am unaware of how many asset management plans the member tabled when she was
in government, but I would suggest it was none.
Several members
interjected.
The SPEAKER : That is enough.
Several members
interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for Girrawheen, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr W.R. MARMION : Before I came into Parliament, I did a number
of those plans for government departments and they were confidential, because
they provide a framework for cabinet to make decisions on in the future in
terms of future expenditure. That is the advice I have and that is why I am not
going to release them. If I get advice to the contrary that I can release them,
I will consider it.
