(1) For the period 1 March to 30 May 2016, what was the number of initial inquiries in relation to suspected child sexual abuse received, by district and by category of mandated referrer? (2) For the period 1 March to 30 May 2016, what was the number of Safety and Wellbeing Assessment with harm assessment, by district and by category of harm of: (a) neglect; (b) sexual abuse; (c) physical abuse; and (d) emotional abuse?

(1) Between 1 March 2016 to 31 May 2016, there were 1,090 child protection notifications in relation to suspected child sexual abuse in the following districts:
Armadale – 66
Cannington – 49
Crisis Care – 230
East Kimberley – 35
Fremantle – 23
Goldfields – 56
Great Southern – 45
Joondalup – 77
Midland – 65
Mirrabooka – 33
Murchison – 54
Peel – 41
Perth – 70
Pilbara – 52
Rockingham – 72
South West – 45
West Kimberley – 30
Wheatbelt – 47.
Of these notifications, 816 were from mandated referrers:
Boarding Supervisor – 1
Doctor – 105
Midwife – 8
Nurse – 60
Police officer – 387
Teacher or principal – 255.
The number of mandatory reporters does not equal the number of notifications because notifications include non-mandatory forms.
(2) Between 1 March 2016 to 30 May 2016, there were 2,920 Safety and Wellbeing Assessments in the following districts:
Armadale – 169
Cannington – 169
Crisis Care – 162
East Kimberley – 92
Fremantle – 158
Goldfields – 108
Great Southern – 139
Joondalup – 140
Midland – 180
Mirrabooka – 195
Murchison – 166
Peel – 190
Perth – 96
Pilbara – 224

The category of harm related to these Safety and Wellbeing Assessments were:
(a) Neglect – 991
(b) Sexual abuse – 791
(c) Physical abuse – 1,152
(d) Emotional/psychological abuse – 1,496.
The number of child protection notifications in relation to suspected child sexual abuse may differ to the number of Safety and Wellbeing Assessments as not all notifications will progress to an assessment. Some of these will be completed following further initial inquiries.
