I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) Antisocial behaviour is a concern to both the community and government. The government and the Police Service are committed to reducing and preventing crime and antisocial behaviour. The Gallop government has committed $145 million to recruit 350 extra police officers above attrition and 160 extra civilian staff. Together with the Commissioner of Police’s Frontline First Community First strategy, this will enable a much stronger police presence in the community. In 2004-05, the government provided additional funding of $1 million to increase police visibility and targeted patrolling in high-risk areas and during peak demand periods. A number of operations were successfully executed throughout the state, and the regional operations group has been further equipped to deal with out-of-control parties. Our government will also legislate to strengthen the anti-hoon laws and will introduce other legislation to assist the police in carrying out their duties.
