The Minister for Energy has provided the following response: (1) The Underground Power Program operates on the basis of lots. This provides underground power to more than one home on some lots and includes a small proportion of commercial properties. The data provided below includes Major Residential Projects and Localised Enhancement Projects. In Round One, the Underground Power Program converted 7 283 lots in 13 local government areas to an underground power system. This is in addition to the Pilot Round which converted 6 482 lots in four local government areas to an underground power system. In Round Two, the Underground Power Program converted 15 463 lots in 22 local government areas to an underground power system. Round Three of the Program is being completed. Thus far, the Program has converted 4 053 lots in ten local government areas to an underground power system. It is anticipated that a further 7 785 lots in six local government areas will be converted by the end of Round Three, providing a total of 11 838 lots for Round Three. In Round Four, it is anticipated that 7 228 lots in seven local government areas will be converted to an underground power system. Currently, the shortlisted Round Four Major Residential Projects are undergoing the Detailed Proposal Stage and are yet to be finalised. The first of the seven Round Four projects is anticipated to commence ground works in February/March 2007. (2) (a) The total cost for Round 1 including the Pilot Projects was $53.778 million. (b) The total cost for Round 2 was $67.575 million. (c) Round Three is expected to cost $99.707 million in total. (3) At this early stage, the total cost of Round Four is estimated to be about $60 million, but this depends on the project scopes and costs which are to be finalised during the Detailed Proposal Stage for each project.
