ROAD SAFETY — HYNES ROAD–FORREST HIGHWAY INTERSECTION —
UPGRADE
1345. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the intersection of Hynes
Road and Forrest Highway, where three people have been killed and seven crashes
have occurred in nine years.
(1) Will the
minister continue to ignore the pleas of the community to upgrade this
dangerous intersection as a matter of urgency?
(2) If no to (1),
when will the much-needed upgrade commence, when will it be finished and how
much will it cost?
(3) How will this upgrade increase
safety?
(4) How much
money has the government saved on work connected with the Millbridge bridge construction because tenders fell below the budget estimates?
(5) Will this money be used to
commence work on the Hynes Road intersection immediately?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. Main
Roads Western Australia advises —
(1)–(5) Main Roads undertook a formal
road safety inspection at the intersection of Hynes Road and Forrest Highway on
Wednesday, 16 November, following two crashes last week. A report on the
outcome of the inspection will be provided shortly and Main Roads will then
undertake appropriate action in accordance with the findings of that review.
