I refer to the Inner City College currently under construction within my Electorate and ask: (a) As at 7 March how many existing trees have been cut down or removed from the site, including road verges, to make way for the school: (i) Is this number different to the original plans circulated to the local community; and (ii) If yes, why; (b) How many Aleppo Pine trees either on the construction site or on adjacent road verges were planned to be removed as part of the construction of the College; and (c) Are any of the Aleppo Pine trees in danger of not surviving during the construction period and if so what is the plan for either saving these trees or their subsequent removal if some can't be saved?

Answer
(a) Sixteen – 12 as part of forward works and four as part of main works.
(i) No. The number of trees removed was in accordance with the Development Approvals.
(ii) Not applicable.
(b) Nil.
(c) An arborist has been visiting the Inner City College (planning name) construction site regularly since construction commenced early in 2018. A report dated 15 February 2019 noted that the health of one of the nine pine trees on Subiaco Road had significantly declined since the previous inspection and appeared unlikely to survive.
Supplementary watering of the trees commenced at the beginning of February 2019 and is being undertaken on a weekly basis.
Suggested changes include:
The condition of the tree will continue to be monitored. There are no plans for the removal of any trees at this stage.
