UNIVERSITIES
— LEGISLATION
392. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to legislation to amend the respective WA
universities acts in respect of strategic and operational requirements. What is
the current proposed timetable to introduce this legislation into Parliament?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question. It is anticipated that, subject to cabinet approval, a bill will be
introduced this year during the spring sittings of Parliament. Just to give the
Leader of the Opposition some feedback on that one, we have been working on
this fastidiously and to try to get a collective norm on some of these issues
for the five tertiary institutions has been quite difficult. We are trying to
satisfy everyoneXXX ###XXXs demands and at the same
time acknowledge that they all have special needs. There is a very remote
chance that I might read it in by the end of this session, but I think I am
safe in saying that I will be reading it in during the spring sitting rather
than give the Leader of the Opposition false hope.
