November 2014: (a) how many times has the
Pastoral Lands Board issued default notices for failure to maintain
infrastructure, including fences, during the past ten years; (b) how many pastoralists were
issued with these notices; (c) of the default notices issued in (a): (i) what was the average time allowed for pastoral lessees to comply; (ii) how many times were the pastoral lessees liable for payment of the $50,000 penalty and/or the daily penalty of $1,000 for failure to comply; (iii) how many of the breaches resulted in forfeiture of the pastoral leases; (iv) how much time were pastoral lessees given to rectify outstanding compliance issues; and (v) what follow-up will occur, and by whom, to ensure pastoral lessees comply with orders to maintain fences and other infrastructure prior to their pastoral leases being renewed; (d) how many pastoral
properties along the Great Northern Highway and North West Coastal Highway are unfenced; (e) how many head of cattle do each of
these unfenced properties have; (f) since the asking of question without notice No. 1350 there has been no marked reduction in straying stock observed on Great Northern Highway, including the road between Derby and Broome. Will the Minister advise why; and (g) if no to (f), why not?

(ii) Nil. To date none of the default notices have resulted in prosecution

(iv) Between three and five years.
(v) All default notices issued by the Pastoral Lands Board are subject to monitoring by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage to ensure compliance. In most cases this involves regular follow up by telephone, email, letter and site visits if required.
(d) As at 16 March 2018, 23 pastoral properties on the Great Northern Highway (16 Pilbara and 7 Mid-West Gascoyne) were unfenced, and 7 pastoral properties on the North West Coastal Highway (6 Pilbara and 1 Mid-West Gascoyne) were unfenced (these numbers include properties that are partially unfenced)
