WORKSAFE — FATALITY — SITE ACCESS
1067. Hon KATE DOUST to the Minister for
Commerce:
With reference to the death of a young female construction worker
yesterday, it was reported in the media this morning by WorkSafe that it had
not been able to access the worksite. What has prevented WorkSafe from
accessing the work site and has it now been able to access the work site and
commence its investigation?

I thank the honourable member for
the question.
I express my personal sorrow and
also the sympathies of the government about the unfortunate young lady
concerned to her family and loved ones. It is my understanding that she was
here on a work visa arrangement and had been working on, I think, the twelfth
or thirteenth floor above a ventilation shaft rather than a lift well, as is my
latest information. She was doing some siliconing work and leaning into it
without wearing a harness and fell to her death. It is my understanding that
WorkSafe was in fact at the scene by 5.30 yesterday afternoon after the police
had attended and the coronial investigation section had been doing some work
there. I have not received a formal report on the matter. WorkSafe has been in
attendance and, of course, it will investigate the matter and deal with it in
its usual fashion.
