ROAD SAFETY COMMISSION — MINIMUM SAFE
PASSING DISTANCE LAWS
242. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the Attorney General representing the Minister for Road Safety:
I refer to trials underway in
Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales of laws
requiring motorists to give a minimum safe passing distance when overtaking or
approaching bike riders, and to South AustraliaXXX ###XXXs
permanent adoption of such laws.
(1) How will the Road Safety
Commission examine the progress and analyse the results of these trials?
(2) What WA government resources
have been allocated to this task?
(3) Should the
trials demonstrate that the laws improve public safety and harmony on the road,
will the government introduce similar legislation in WA?
