a) 2003/04 will be Year 3 of installation. However, runnels have not been installed at all Year 2 sites due to the detection of Acid Sulphate Soils and/or unfavourable tidal conditions
b) Runnels have been installed at 8 saltmarshes: Placid Waters S1, Placid Waters S2, Riverview (MEC site 94), Riverside Gardens (MEC site 100), Furnissdale (MEC site 51), Mandurah Gardens Estate (MEC site 101), Upper Serpentine Site B, Riverside Gardens (MEC site 56).
c) A further 27 sites are earmarked for runnelling. Acid sulphate soils have been detected at a number of these. Runnelling at these sites will hinge on whether protocols for managing and monitoring the acid sulphate soils can be developed.
d) An assessment will be made after the Department of Health’s appraisal of this project.
e) This is dependent on Department of Health funds and the Department’s critical appraisal of the project.
f) The project will be completed in accordance with the Environmental Assessment and Management Plan, to ensure that potential impacts on the wetlands are minimised. Environmental considerations may mean that the completion date is beyond the 4 years.
