On 15 August the Minister for the Arts answered, in response to a question without notice on state funding to major performing arts companies in WA this financial year - To the extent that there is insufficient capacity within the ministry's appropriation, supplementary funding will be sought. Will the Treasurer guarantee that this supplementary funding will be granted if sought? Hon PETER FOSS

The budget for the Ministry for Culture and the Arts has only recently been finalised. It provides for appropriate funding for major performing arts companies. We will monitor the position of those companies throughout the course of the year and respond accordingly. It should also be noted that every request for supplementary funding is examined on its individual merits and no guarantee can be given that supplementary funding will be granted until the circumstances of each individual submission are known; in fact, surely it would be totally unreasonable and improper to do so.
