HOME INVASION — POLICE RESPONSE TIME
As a supplementary question, will the minister take a proactive step to discuss this matter with the Commissioner of Police with a view to reconsidering the government’s decision to close six regional police stations? Mr J.C. KOBELKE

AnswerView source ↗

The commissioner, in reallocating staff, which led to the closure of some country police stations, gave an undertaking to review that situation. I raised the issue with him only a few weeks ago and that review will take place. However, the member should not draw any parallel between one particular incident and what may or may not be the efficiency of police throughout that region. I was very happy to speak to the superintendent in Albany who covers that region a few weeks ago. The results for police in Albany and the great southern are absolutely outstanding. There has been a marked reduction in crime through proactive policing and there have been improvements in almost every indicator. There is very positive policing in the great southern. Any suggestion that it has gone backwards is totally contrary to the facts.
