(1) The Source Protection Plan describes five sites for possible alternative supplies, but does not refer to those sites as appropriate. These sites are: a) From Lake Kununurra direct, b) From beneath the golf course west of the water reserve, c) From beneath the Ivanhoe and/or Packsaddle Plains, d) From possible gravel beds by the Ord River near Maxwell Plains, and, e) From Lake Argyle direct. Each of these sites has major environmental, economic and social implications, and may not deliver a source water as reliably-safe as the existing source. (2) No formal investigations of the sites have been undertaken, apart from earlier studies of the hydrogeology of the Ivanhoe and Packsaddle Plains. A preliminary desktop study of these sites, as well as a consideration of a small pipehead dam on the Spillway Creek, has been undertaken.
