Pilbara—Housing developments—Water supply
512. Mr Peter Rundle to
the Premier:
I have a
supplementary question. Is the Premier going to continue to sweep this under
the carpet or is he going to order the Water Corporation to take some serious
action in relation to providing water for towns like Port Hedland?

I think the member
will observe from my answer to his original question that we are not sweeping this
under the carpet at all. We believe it is an important issue and it is one that
we are working very hard on.
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Nationals WA! This is your
party's question. You are making it very difficult for the Premier to respond.
Mr Roger Cook: We own up to the infrastructure

Mr Shane Love interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the National Party!

The Speaker: Leader of the National Party, I am going
to call you for the first time.
Mr Roger Cook: These are problems—

The Speaker: Leader of the National Party, I am going
to call you for the second time.
Mr Roger Cook: These are challenges of growth, because
Western Australia has the strongest economy in the country.

The Speaker: Members!
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition, that is
unhelpful.
Mr Roger Cook: We have the strongest economy and the fastest
growing economy in the country.
Mr Shane Love interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the National Party, I am going
to call you for the third time.
Mr Roger Cook: We have the fastest growing economy and
the fastest growing population in the country. Between 2016 and 2024, our
population has grown by 17%. We need to continue to invest significantly in all
our infrastructure-enabling activity, and that includes the development of the North
West Interconnected System. It means that we need to continue to make sure that
we are developing more diversified sources of water and means of getting it to
new developments. We will continue to make the investments that we need to make
sure that that happens.
