I do have an answer, and I thank Hon Giz Watson for providing notice of the question. I think that the question has been somewhat misunderstood. However, I will provide this answer and perhaps the honourable member might like to speak to me afterwards if she requires more information. (1)-(3) Section 7(3) of the Commissioner for Children and Young People Act 2006 requires children and young people to be involved in the selection process. As part of the selection process, a consultant has been engaged to coordinate the involvement of children. Section 20 of the act requires that in the performance of his or her functions, the commissioner is to give priority to the needs of Aboriginal children and young people, Torres Strait Islander children and young people, and children and young people who are vulnerable or disadvantaged. When the commissioner is appointed, it will be his or her responsibility to determine the means and extent of consultation with Aboriginal representatives that will be required in developing consultation mechanisms, guidelines and work practices.
