FUTURE
SKILLS ENTITLEMENT MODEL
839. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH to
the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Training and Workforce Development:
(1) How many complaints have been received
by the Department of Training and Workforce Development about the Future Skills
entitlement model in WA and its negative impact on access and equity groups;
and what action, if any, has the Minister for Training and Workforce Development
taken in response?
(2) Can the minister confirm that this is
the first time in over 30 years that the state government's training
model did not include any provision for funding of access and equity programs?
(3) Can the minister explain why all other
states and territories included equity training courses in their entitlement
model but Western Australia did not?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1) The Department
of Training and Workforce Development receives inquiries regarding Future Skills
WA through its website. The department does not record a specific breakdown of
inquiries received as complaints or requests for further information or
clarification. In total, the department received 312 inquiries through the
Future Skills WA inquiries website comprising a wide range of requests for
further information, clarification or comment.
(2)–(3) Under Future Skills WA,
access and equity courses are still available through both public and private
training providers, including a range of specifically identified courses that
are available for a very low nominal course fee. In addition, two critical
foundation courses are available through the Future Skills guarantee for no
charge.
