DUNCRAIG
SECONDARY EDUCATION SUPPORT CENTRE
1153. Hon LAINE McDONALD to the Minister
for Education:
I refer to the minister's
recent announcement to move Duncraig Secondary Education Support Centre from
Duncraig Senior High School to Warwick Senior High School. In making that
decision —
(a) why was no
financial provision made for relining the pool and for the building adjacent to
the disabled change rooms;
(b) why was there
no understanding that additional provision for Warwick staff toilets will be
required to free up disabled toilets and that this requires funding; and
(c) was the
minister aware that as Warwick Senior High School runs specialist sports
programs, there will be limited availability of the gym for the Duncraig
Secondary Education Support Centre students?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. We are all looking forward to the honourable
member's maiden speech at 7.30 tonight. We will make sure we are all
here.
(a)–(c) On
20 September 2016, the director general of the Department of Education advised
that the department's preferred position for the long-term resolution
of enrolment pressure at the Duncraig Senior High School site is the relocation
of Duncraig Secondary Education Support Centre to the Warwick Senior High
School site. This strategy remains under a process of consultation between
departmental officers, the school principals and members of the school
communities. Details of the scope of works and access arrangements to
specialist facilities continue to be part of the consultation process underway
in developing this strategy.
