FINANCE BROKERS SUPERVISORY BOARD
I refer to the minister’s refusal to dismiss the three remaining members of the Finance Brokers Supervisory Board. In the light of the demonstrated incompetence of the board and the fact that one of the remaining members, Ray Weir, is currently being investigated by the police regarding a possible breach of the Finance Brokers Control Act, why will the minister not recognise that there will be no public confidence in the finance broking industry until the board is sacked and a clean start is made with a new board? I have sought Crown Law advice in regard to this matter. A number of issues are involved. One of the board members has brought up the issue of the ongoing investigation regarding one of the parties and has said that if the board were dismissed tomorrow, that could well impede that investigation. I have a duty to the public to act responsibly. I will take that advice from Crown Law to Cabinet, which will make a decision.
