A WA parliamentary question on notice addresses the need for a separate secondary school in Kalbarri, given increased student numbers, community consultation, inadequate facilities, and the lack of a regulation-size football oval. The government acknowledges the issues but offers limited immediate solutions.

My question probably sounds similar to the previous question. In the year 2000 a secondary school was integrated into the existing primary school in Kalbarri, with an assurance by the Government that a separate secondary school would follow. (1) When will a separate secondary school be operational in Kalbarri given student numbers have increased from 14 students in 2000 to 78 students now. (2) Has there been any community consultation about a secondary school in Kalbarri? (3) Is the Government aware of the inadequate toilet facilities at the school? If yes, what solutions are being considered by the Government? (4) Is Kalbarri school the only government school in the State without a regulation-size football oval? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD

I thank the member for some notice of this question. An answer has been provided in the following terms - (1) In 2000, a decision was made to reclassify the school at Kalbarri to a district high school. No commitment was made at that time to establish a separate secondary school. (2) In terms of the local area education planning process, a drafting committee was formed and has since completed its work. No further consultation is planned at this time. (3) The Mid West District Education Office recently rated Kalbarri District High School priority 6 in the district for an upgrade of its toilet facility. As a result, it is unlikely that the toilets at the school will be upgraded in the forthcoming program. (4) No. A number of schools throughout the State do not have a regulation-size football oval.
