Children in care—Whereabouts unknown
982. Hon Nick Goiran to
the minister representing the Minister for
Child Protection:
I refer to the
answer to my question without notice 951 on 23 October 2025, specifically in relation
to the one child who was listed as "missing" on 14 October but then
curiously listed as "unaccounted for—not in contact" on 21 October.
(1) On what date was the child recorded as "missing"?
(2) On what date was the child subsequently
recorded as "unaccounted for–not in contact"?
(3) What is the explanation for this unusual
change in the child's status?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following response has
been provided by the Minister for Child Protection. The Department of
Communities advises the following.
(1) The young person was recorded "missing"
on 13 October 2025.
(2) The young person was recorded as "unaccounted
for–not in contact" on 16 October 2025.
(3) The young person was located and returned to
their care arrangement, prior to being assessed as "unaccounted for–not
in contact" again.
The nature of child protection
is dynamic. As young people, especially those who are approaching 18 years of
age, begin to make their own decisions, they can move between statuses.
