I refer to a recent Access Economics report on the $1.2 billion Australian cruise industry, which outlined the recent significant growth in the industry over the past two years and predicts that the number of passenger departures from Fremantle will quadruple in the next decade to 2020, and I ask -
(1) What is the current maximum capacity of passenger movements per day at the Fremantle Passenger Terminal?
(2) As the average size cruise ship servicing Australian ports is now 1112 passengers, are the facilities at the Fremantle Passenger terminal adequate for the current demand?
(3) Has the Minister discussed the predicted growth in passenger numbers through the Fremantle Passenger Terminal with the Minister for Transport?
(4) If yes to (3), will the Government commit the necessary funds to develop the Fremantle Passenger Terminal to increase the capacity of the terminal and facilitate the growth of the cruise ship industry in Western Australia?
(5) If no to (3), when does the Minister plan to discuss the limited capacity of the Fremantle Passenger Terminal with the Minister for Transport?
(6) What additional funds will the Government make available to develop the capacity to service cruise ship passengers and crew at the ports of Albany, Broome, Bunbury, Esperance, Exmouth and Geraldton, to meet the demand generated by the growth of the cruise ship industry in Western Australia?
